Megalomaniac Winery Visit

This afternoon we went to the winery where David works. I was eager to check it out and see where he's spending his days. The winery is actually built into a hill in the limestone and is therefore one big wine cellar. Pretty neat!
Side view of the winery. The big stones to the right are part of the removed limestone.

Sarah loved trying to climb the rocks

View from the winery, looking out at the vineyards and long driveway to the road. Since the winery is built into a hill it's set back quite far from the road.

Welcome!

The wines

Stepping into the winery. The tasting bar is to the left. On the sides of the walls you can see the ferment tanks and the barrels are at the back.

Sarah thought it was pretty fun to open and close the doors to the empty tanks. She loved the echo sound in the winery and was therefore yelling and screeching a lot. Thankfully we were the only ones there at the time.

There are a couple of holes in the walls so people can view the limestone/ underground.

David noticed that some of the wines were "bleeding" out the tops of the barrels so he was quick to get cleaning. He's in charge of taking care of the barrels, so he feels quite a sense of ownership. He is so in his element here!

It was neat to walk around as a family. As I watched Sarah explore and run around the barrels I couldn't help but think about what our kids life will be like growing up in the wine world. I anticipate many more winery and vineyard visits in the days and years to come.
