A Change of Plans...

A few posts ago I wrote about how David will be working at Southbrook Winery for the fall and most likely the summer. Well, that is no longer happening. To make a long story short, he had to have a couple more interviews at Southbrook to see what the summer plan would be. They wanted him to start asap, however we are planning on going to BC (in just one week!) therefore that wasn't possible. In the end they were just able to offer him a fall placement and nothing for the summer (which he also needs).

In the meantime he was contacted by someone that he's volunteered with/for the wine media events the last couple of years. She told him of a possible job opportunity, so David made the contact and an interview was set up.

He was offered a job, starting this Wednesday (with the 2 week leave for BC) and ending at the end of December at Megalomanic Winery. John Howard is the owner of the winery and he will be working directly under the head wine maker, Sue Ann Staff (also of Staff Winery). David is super excited! This opportunity seems to be even better than what he was initially hoping for at Southbrook. Megalomanic isn't a bio dynamic/ organic winery, however there are so many other positives.

This seems to be a great personality fit for David, both with the owner and wine maker. David can already tell that he will be able to learn a ton. He will also be given more responsibility at this winery. It's a smaller winery/ vineyard for one. The owner is also part owner of a winery in St. Emillion (near Bordeaux, France) and will have to travel several times during David's employment to France. The neat part is that David and I spent a day in St. Emillion when we were in France and actually saw his vineyards.

The pay is also better than we were expecting. This isn't a huge deal, but it's a wonderful bonus that we're thankful for! We are continually reminded of how God's plans are always better than our own. This is a great opportunity, one much better than David could have ever hoped for. I'm not sure what to think when I keep hearing him say that he can't wait to go to work. I just feel glad that he's loving what he's doing and so happy that we took the leap of faith to do this. I am SO proud of him!!

David writes his last exam tonight and then he doesn't return to school until January. He only has 3 actual courses left and his thesis. In the meantime it's just co op. We're getting there!

The above photo is of the winery. This large room serves at the working area of the winery, holding tank space and the boutique. David will be spending a lot of time in this room, especially since he will be in charge of the wine tastings, etc for much of the summer.
In case you were wondering this is what Wikopedia defines Megalomania:

If you're curious about the winery, etc here's the link. It's a neat website.

A Little Sarah

We've really been enjoying all the beautiful warm T-Shirt weather these days! Sarah continues to love her little car and recent birthday gift, a tricyle from Michael and Rebecca. Her little house and golf clubs continue to be favourite places to play as well. She also likes playing in the dirt and trampling over my plants. I think I'm coming to terms with the fact that I may not have many pretty flowers this summer. Calvin has been spending quite a lot of time on the blanket on the lawn. Good times.

Calvin is 6 Months!

Time continues to fly by! Today is our little man's half birthday! We love you Calvin! We've seen so many changes during the last week or so with this little guy. He loves to roll, an inch his way forward on his stomach, pull himself toward a toy, is starting to sit for very brief periods of time. He continues to love to smile and giggle.

Can sometimes sit for about a minute at a time.

Aunty Becca Comes to Visit

Last week Rebecca was in Ontario helping baby sit her younger cousins. Since the kids are all in school we were lucky enough to be able to spend lots of time with her during the days.

Rolly

Up until about a week ago Calvin had only rolled a few times. Now all he wants to do is roll. His favourite place to play is on the floor. It doesn't matter if he's placed on his back or tummy since he'll just roll to wherever he wants to go or get. He loves to play on his tummy and is a big fan of toys.

Calvin has also learned how to make spitting sounds with his lips. He really enjoys this and often spends time in his crib making sounds, rolling around, spining his body and grabbing onto the crib rails. I often have to go in and re position him and straighten out his little blanket before he falls asleep. Sarah loves interacting with Calvin. She loves to blow on his tummy and make the lip sounds back to him, which just encourages him to do it even more. I love watching them entertain each other, giggling and smiling. Just so sweet!

Playing Together

Yesterday we went to Toys R Us to let Sarah pick out a special toy for her birthday. She chose a little Microwave. The buttons beep and when you press start the plate turns around and it lights up. In the afternoon, both kids were happily playing with their toys together, it was so sweet! I think they'll be great friends when they get a little older.

Happy Easter!

We wish you a wonderful Easter! This morning we enjoyed an awesome service at our church, one of the best Easter services that I've experienced in a long time. How blessed we are to know Jesus and have him living in us!

Here's a few pics from this afternoon. Beautiful weather, kids in Easter clothes and David checking out the condition of the garden, can't wait for summer!

Sarah is learning to say "cheese." Just cracks me up!

I couldn't believe she actually just sat there when I asked her to, I suppose there's hope after all.

Today we have nothing going on. No get togethers, no place to go, no one to have over. So we're just taking it easy. The kids are both having naps at the moment. A warm breeze is blowing through the open windows. We're feeling pretty relaxed, perhaps we'll go for a walk later and/ or hang out in the back yard.

Christ has risen! Happy Easterl; we hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Easter with the Lee's

Yesterday we spent Easter with the Lee's. The kids enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in the late afternoon. It was 27 degrees here yesterday with a warm breeze. What an amazing weekend! David and Matt hid the Kinder Surprise eggs but had to take them back inside to put them in the freezer since they were all melting outside. Later, we ate a delcious dinner of ham, vereneki, sausage, veggies, spinach salad, etc.

This was Sarah's second "hunt" on Saturday so she was indeed getting the hang of it.

No chocolates yet for this little guy!

Cracking open the Kinder Surprise eggs to discover what treats were inside. When we were at Superstore a couple of weeks ago we found the Kinder eggs on the Clearance rack since they were in Valentine hearts. The eggs worked out to 14 cents each so we got a bunch for Easter, so fun!

Thorold Easter Egg Hunt

This morning we went to the Thorold Easter Egg Hunt. We were amazed how many people were at the event, kids everywhere! The hunt is sponsored by the Thorold Firefighters. Sarah had a great time being with the other kids and taking in all the excitement. No chance she would go near the Easter bunny, it was our Santa experience all over again.
