No Nap

Calvin didn't have a nap today. This is what happens when Calvin doesn't nap, he falls asleep on the floor.  He has yet to make it a full day without having a nap, even if it's in the car on the way home.  I love this image, it's peaceful and precious.  It's the kind of image that grips my soul and reminds me how much I completely and utterly adore my children.  That crazy, do anything for them kind of love.  Yes, they drive me insane some days but my life wouldn't be complete without them in it.  I understand love, God's love, so much more because of the way I love my children.  Being a mom is one of the hardest things that I've done/ continue to do, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Blessed.

“The details, that’s what the world is made of. Those are the paints.” -Wes Anderson

Photography is helping me remember and cherish my children's details.  It helps me see my world more beautifully, I notice the little things.  It's the details that I love.

Peek a Boo

Love these girls!  This pic is so Sarah and Lauren, makes me smile.

Beaver Lake Camping Trip

This past week (Fri-Tues), we enjoyed time at Beaver Lake (just past Winfield).  Many of my cousins, aunts, uncles, etc came joined us for a wonderful time.  We had a BBQ on Saturday evening and there were 34 of us! I adore my family, all of them.  It was such a gift to spend quality and quantity time with them.  Memories were made.  This is what it's all about for me.  Living in community and sharing life with those that I love.

We're not a perfect family, none are.  We have our issues and are learning to love better, be more authentic and live out our faith in a more real way.  We're all dealing with things and trying to make sense of our own struggles (personally and within our family groups).

Putting my heart on my sleeve here...This is the first summer since my uncle Dave passed away in the fall. He was a camping man and therefore camping will always be a fond memory that his wife and children have of him.  My aunt Erika, cousins Rachel and Nick came up for a couple of nights. It was so great to have them!  The rest of their family couldn't make it up, kids are growing and leaving the "nest," not an easy time for my aunt. I feel for her, even though I don't understand this stage I can get that it would be incredibly hard to "let go" of your kids after taking care of them for so long.

One of my cousins and her family didn't come up.  I know that my aunt and uncle wished all of their kids could have been there, not to mention their grandchildren.  They are all loved beyond words.  My brother and sister in law and nieces didn't come; camping isn't for everyone.  That said, it would have been great for the kids to play together and share a bigger memory with their family.  Perhaps one day.  My moms boyfriend and sons came on the trip as well. This had the potential to be kind of odd, however they were great guys and we ended up having a great time getting to know them.

So there it is, struggles, some sadness, wishes, akwardness.  No one needed to say these things, one just knows they exist.  There will always be some of these feelings in a family.  But in the end it was good. We had a great trip and enjoyed the time we shared, it was positive.  Time spent brings people together.

Everyone enjoyed my aunt and uncles kayaks.

We played a lot of games.  We had some not so nice weather so it was a good thing that we're a game loving family!

The kids loved playing at the waters edge.

There was a petting zoo that was a HUGE hit with our kids!  They loved the guinea pigs.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

This morning we went to Capilano Suspension Bridge with Libby and her mom.  Amazingly, I had never been here before. Considering that it's Vancouver's number one tourist attraction, it was due time that I experience the bridge.  We had a great time walking through the trails and on the many bridges.  A great way to spend a summer day!

Cherrio

Love this face.  These days when Lauren starts crying and I'm cooking for doing some kind of household task where I can can't get to her, I just give her a little pile of cheerios.

Raspberry Picking and Cooling Off

On Thursday morning we went raspberry picking at cousins farm. Thanks Rob!!!  There isn't much better than fresh berries!  I had really missed berries while being in Ontario, so this year I'm determined to pick each kind of berry, we're half way there!  I have to admit that I'm missing cherry and peach picking this year, but you can't have everything.

After some picking (and lots of eating), we walked across the street to enjoy my aunt and uncles pool. This is the life!

I was so proud of Sarah and Calvin!  They were going off the slide and swimming by themselves (with life jackets).  What a big day for these kiddos!

Sparkle

We got a slip and slide this week. So fun!  Sarah was sliding the other day and I couldn't help notice the "sparkles" in the water.  Sparkle was the photo challenge them for a website that I recently found, too bad I took the photo the day after the submission deadline.  Oh well, I love how photo challenges help me see the world a little differently, more beautiful and alive.

My Favourites

The people make me smile, they're my favourites (people, that is). Yes, they can drive me a little crazy at times, but I love them madly. Pretty much every morning the kids pile into our bed, then Lauren wakes up and joins in the "fun."  Some days we want them to just get out and get back in their beds. Other days, we try to embrace these moments and actually enjoy the family bed experience.

I was about to jump in the shower this day and couldn't help grab the camera at this lovely little Ipad sight.

Urban Kids in New West

On Wednesday Rachelle (& Lenora), Debbie, the kids and I went to New West to walk around taking some "urban" pics of the kids.  We had a wonderful time out, went for lunch, shopped at the Salvation Army (got some super cheap Duplo) and went to the Quay.  Such a good day with the kids and friends and even a few photos that make me smile.

Me and my little loves.  We tried so hard to get a pic of all three kids sitting here, but Lauren just wouldn't have it.  So, I joined in and no more tears.

A Day for Whatever

On Thursday I dropped Sarah and Calvin off at my mom's place before heading off to photo club.  The kids stayed two nights (we picked them up this morning).  What an amazing blessing my mom is to us!  So Friday ended up being a day to do whatever we wanted.

We went for lunch to the Boathouse in New West (yahoo for Christmas gift cards), stopped in at the winery (I played with my camera while David checked on wines), had a look around Salvation Army and then headed to Granville Island.  Ah sweet bliss of a day with nothing to do but enjoy each other's company and the beautiful city we live in (or close to it at least).  Michael and Rebecca ended up meeting up with us in Granville.

For dinner we went to Hub Restaurant in Yale Town where we all met up with Anna and Debbie.  This was Christmas gift card #2 that we got to use. Yes!!  The food was delicious and the company wonderful.  After dinner we walked around the city and enjoyed the sights by the water.  Warm and beautiful, a perfect summer evening.

Thanks again Mom; we had a fabulous day off!  Well mostly off, Lauren is becoming a little handful, as you know.
