This morning we had our consultation appointment for Sarah at Hamilton McMasters Children's Hospital to find out more about what's going to happen with her skin tag. The staff and doctor (plastic surgery) were friendly and informative; the doctor has clearly done a lot of these types of surgery and was more than familiar with the scenario. Sarah was happy, talkative and very friendly to the doctor as well.
It looks like Sarah will have surgery scheduled from 3-4 months from now. It's a day op and the surgery will take less than an hour. She'll have to go under GA so that she's not moving around at all (understandable). We were a little hesitant about this at first, but the doctor assured us that once a baby is more than a year old the risks are the same as they are for an adult. If we didn't want her to go under we would have to wait until she felt ready and mature enough to handle a local, well this could be a very long time away. And if she's anything like me, possibly never. So for her sake, we figured we would just go ahead with it now and get it over with.
I'm happy that the surgery will before the baby arrives as well. It will allow us to give all of our attention to Sarah and make the day at the hospital that much easier. So we're feeling good about the situation. We should find out our pre op appointment and surgery date within the next couple of weeks.
