Re posting of Our First Week in Ontario

It’s hard to believe that it’s only been a week that we’ve been out of the province. We’ve done and seen so much already that it feels like so much longer. Here’s the update:We arrived in Toronto last Sunday morning, where we were picked up by David’s cousin (lives nearby). When we arrived at our new place we were greeted by our landlord, Lou. Our house is older, but it’s got some character, plenty of space and a small fenced in back yard. Most of the walls upstairs were painted sea foam green. All of the bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom also had lovely boarders that I took down. Our landlords gave us permission to paint whatever we wanted to in the house and agreed to pay for the paint. Therefore we have been painting like mad! Our furniture didn’t end up arriving until Friday so we had time to paint the living room, master bedroom and spare room. We now have the bathroom painted, part of the rec room and Sarah’s room should be finished tomorrow. The kitchen is the only room in the house that I really have no idea what to do with. Between the tiled half walls, pink paint, border and old cupboards, I’m stumped. I think that will be the last room I get to. The house is looking much better and feels more like home already. What a lot of work it has been though. We spent the first five days sleeping on camping mats on the living room floor. Sarah just slept on a sheet on the floor as well. It’s a funny thing to be living in a house with nothing but your suitcases and a couple of borrowed mats! Oh the memories and stories we will have to tell later, or even now.

The actual move of our belongings went great! The car was on our driveway when we arrived. David and I were a little nervous about the possible damages to our furniture and other stuff. In the end we only had 2 broken plates, 1 serving plate and 1 energy saving light bulb. Not bad. Now it’s just a matter of finding a place for everything.

In other news, we sold our house on Thursday! Therefore we have also been busy communicating with our real estate agent in Abby as well as our lawyers in Abby and St. Catharines. The closing date is this Thursday, so everything has gone really fast in the end. David and I were feeling a little nervous about moving and leaving the house behind, but know that God is in control. We spent time talking and praying together on Tuesday evening about the whole situation; also praying for continued faith in Christ for his plans for us. Putting our house for sale and getting rid of so many of our things has all been in faith that we are going where God wants us to go.Our real estate agent phoned us on Wednesday morning to tell us that we had an offer. After a day of back and forth offers we settled on the terms. We ended up getting less than we thought we would, but there were no subjects and a quick closing date so it seemed like the right thing to do and an answer to prayer. God is indeed good, all the time!

Both David and I feel such a peace being here. It truly feels like God has prepared the way before us and we are just following that which he has prepared. Our landlords, Lou and Vicky, have been incredible! They’ve come around each day to make little improvements on the house and to see if we need anything. On the first day Vicky cooked us dinner and brought it over, on the second day that we were here they invited us to their place for dinner and to meet their 3 sons. On Friday they also took us out for dinner to a pizza/ wing restaurant to celebrate David’s birthday. Poor guy had to set up furniture on his birthday! Oh well, the pizza was incredible! It feels great to feel like we already have friends here. They have been so… nice, they say it’s just Italian hospitality; but we sure have appreciated their kindness and generosity.

Between painting daily and unpacking we have been able to see quite a lot here already. We bought a GPS from Costco and have enjoyed going on GPS adventures. The other day we spent the evening in Niagara Falls. The falls are beautiful and the main street, Clifton Hill, had lots to see. The actual falls are less than 15 minutes from our house! Yesterday we went for a drive through the Niagara on the Lake District. We couldn’t believe that peach & apple orchards, as well as tons of vineyards are also just 15 minutes away. The town was really cute. It reminded us of Fort Langley, but larger and much nicer. We’ve also spent a lot of time visiting different stores and just getting ourselves orientated with a new city. We actually live in a small town called Thorold; it’s 3 minutes to St. Catharines and about 8 minutes to Niagara Falls. We live on a quaint street, lined with little brick houses. We’re within an 8 minute walk to the grocery store, post office, deli, ice-cream shop, dollar store, thrift shop as well as a few other stores.

Sarah is doing great. She slept through the entire flight, which we were relieved about. Even Keisha seemed fine after the flight. Sarah seems to have grown and changed so much within the last week. She is smiling lots, laughs, squeals, coos and even growls at times. She has now found her feet and enjoys holding her ankles and feet. She has also become good and fast at rolling back to front as well as front to back. She has become more interactive and loves playing with her toys. The nights haven’t been as good as they were, but who can blame the girl, she was sleeping on the floor! Now that she’s back in her crib things are looking up again. Last night she went down at 7 and only woke up once at 5, but then went right back to sleep until 8am.

It’s funny to be in the same country, but there are so many differences. Things are good. We’re excited about where we are living and the adventure that God has in store for us. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Sorry about the long letter, I just didn’t really know how to write it any shorter.

Feel free to give us a call at 905-680-6284. We also have unlimited long distance, so feel free to call and we’ll call you back.

Miss you, lots of love,David, Shari & Sarah
