A few posts ago I wrote about how David will be working at Southbrook Winery for the fall and most likely the summer. Well, that is no longer happening. To make a long story short, he had to have a couple more interviews at Southbrook to see what the summer plan would be. They wanted him to start asap, however we are planning on going to BC (in just one week!) therefore that wasn't possible. In the end they were just able to offer him a fall placement and nothing for the summer (which he also needs).
In the meantime he was contacted by someone that he's volunteered with/for the wine media events the last couple of years. She told him of a possible job opportunity, so David made the contact and an interview was set up.
He was offered a job, starting this Wednesday (with the 2 week leave for BC) and ending at the end of December at Megalomanic Winery. John Howard is the owner of the winery and he will be working directly under the head wine maker, Sue Ann Staff (also of Staff Winery). David is super excited! This opportunity seems to be even better than what he was initially hoping for at Southbrook. Megalomanic isn't a bio dynamic/ organic winery, however there are so many other positives.
This seems to be a great personality fit for David, both with the owner and wine maker. David can already tell that he will be able to learn a ton. He will also be given more responsibility at this winery. It's a smaller winery/ vineyard for one. The owner is also part owner of a winery in St. Emillion (near Bordeaux, France) and will have to travel several times during David's employment to France. The neat part is that David and I spent a day in St. Emillion when we were in France and actually saw his vineyards.
The pay is also better than we were expecting. This isn't a huge deal, but it's a wonderful bonus that we're thankful for! We are continually reminded of how God's plans are always better than our own. This is a great opportunity, one much better than David could have ever hoped for. I'm not sure what to think when I keep hearing him say that he can't wait to go to work. I just feel glad that he's loving what he's doing and so happy that we took the leap of faith to do this. I am SO proud of him!!
David writes his last exam tonight and then he doesn't return to school until January. He only has 3 actual courses left and his thesis. In the meantime it's just co op. We're getting there!
The above photo is of the winery. This large room serves at the working area of the winery, holding tank space and the boutique. David will be spending a lot of time in this room, especially since he will be in charge of the wine tastings, etc for much of the summer.
In case you were wondering this is what Wikopedia defines Megalomania:
A psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence.
An obsession with grandiose or extravagant things or actions. I was curious.

If you're curious about the winery, etc here's the link. It's a neat website.
